Bridge Exhibition
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the world’s largest (but not longest) steel arch bridge and is a renowned international symbol of Australia. In the Bridge exhibition you will take a fascinating journey through the amazing history of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is a must see attraction for any visitor to Sydney or for anyone who would like to learn more about this iconic structure.
In the exhibition you can read all about the Bridge’s design and why a steel arch was eventually chosen. You will learn about the engineers and designers who guided its construction, discover how the skilled tradesmen and laborers constructed the Bridge in often harrowing conditions and find out about the 16 men that lost their lives during this mammoth build. You
can even witness the excitement of Sydney during
the Bridge’s official opening ceremony and read a special edition of the Sydney Morning Herald from 19th March 1932 about the opening of Sydney’s long awaited Bridge.
The Bridge exhibition also features a showcase of Bridge artefacts and historic souvenirs depicting the history and construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Explore one of the fascinating instruments that was once used to help construct the Bridge and check out some of the unique Sydney Harbour Bridge collectable items that were produced and sold in the 1930’s.
The Bridge exhibition is open to visitors of all ages. Kids will have fun exploring our interactive exhibits whilst learning interesting facts about the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can even attempt to re-build the arch of the bridge on our computer touchscreen displays, and learn that the Bridge is actually made up of all straight pieces of steel.
There is so much more to discover in the Bridge exhibiton.
