Five Ways to Celebrate Chinese New Year in Sydney

Did you know the largest Lunar Festival outside of Asia takes place right here in Sydney? From the 1st to the 10th of February, celebrate Chinese New Year with dazzling performances, colourful markets and incredible food across the city. Here are our top five ways to ring in the Year of the Pig:

Meander along the magical Lunar Lantern Trail 

Take in the mesmerizing lunar lanterns, scattered along the Sydney Harbour. Twelve magnificent light sculptures representing the zodiac animals will adorn the city from Circular Quay to the Opera House.

Watch the Dragon Boat races in Darling Harbour

Marvel at the 12-metre dragon-headed boats as they race through Darling Harbour. On the 9th and 10th of February, over 3,000 paddlers will battle it out as thousands of spectators cheer from the shores. Get the best view of the exhilarating race from Cockle Bay Wharf.



Take your taste buds abroad during Lunar Eats

 All-you-can-eat dumplings? Yes please! Celebrate Sydney’s fabulous Asian cuisine and feast on savoury Chinese New Year offerings at restaurants all across the city participating in Lunar Eats.

Wander the Night Markets in Chinatown and Haymarket 

Take a walk amongst the stalls of the Chinatown Night Market and awaken your senses to the tastes, sights, smells and sounds from Hong Kong to Hanoi.

Ring in the New Year at the Top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
