WINTER WONDERS FROM THE TOP OF THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE

Australia may be best known for its long hot summer, but there’s still plenty of things to do in the off-season. Winter in Australia starts in June and runs through to the end of August and is certainly no match to the harsh Winters our friends in the northern hemisphere face.

On the East Coast of Australia, the winter months are mild and the days are particularly clear and bright. Generally, Sydney experiences average temperatures ranging from 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit) to 18 degrees Celsius (61 degrees Fahrenheit) during the cooler months.

Along, with the clear skies and mild temperatures, there are many surprising natural phenomena that occur, turning the sky into a winter wonderland, and making your climb to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge even more spectacular.

Here’s five reasons why you should do a BridgeClimb this Winter:

1. Rainbows

From sun showers to double rainbows that drape over the cityscape and across the Sydney Harbour, we’ve been pretty lucky to have witnessed our fair share of Mother Nature’s most beautiful spectacles. The colourful arches appear after a rain shower, or with fog. And don’t worry, if it rains during your Climb, we’ll have you decked out in wet weather gear so you can experience the full spectrum of colour over the Sydney skyline in maximum comfort.

Get up close to a rainbow by booking a BridgeClimb during the Day.

2. Climb into the clouds

On special Winter mornings, thick fog blankets the harbour and envelopes the Bridge. On a Dawn Climb, you can literally ascend into the clouds to watch the sunrise. It’s a special feeling as you make your way through the mystical fog to reach the Summit, 134 metres above the Sydney Harbour. Guaranteed to be a climb you will never fog-get!

3. Cotton candy sky

As the sun dips low on the horizon, the sky fills with vivid colours that mirror an oil pastel set. The sun’s colour spectrum is made up of the colours of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, and as the light beams travel through the earth’s atmosphere stunning pinks, purples, reds and oranges shine through the clouds and paint the sky.

Experience a dreamy sunset on a Twilight Climb – it’s the best backdrop to your photo at the Summit.

4. Sunset Sessions

This winter, we welcomed back our popular Sunset Sessions: all weekend Twilight Climbs throughout July and August will include a live music performance at the Summit. You’ll enjoy the visual delight of the day’s sky as it transitions to evening as you listen to a selection of acoustic tunes. This unique musical experience is a special extra for Twilight Climbers and is included in the standard price of your ticket on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August.

5. Stargazing

Another benefit to the clear Winter skies is the ability to see the moon and stars more clearly at night. Rug up in one of our fleecy jackets and try out a Night Climb. As the city winds-down from the busy day there is a quiet and calm atmosphere as you make your way up the steel arches. Once you reach the top the view of the sparkling city skyscrapers is mesmerising and there’s no better platform in Sydney for star-gazing.

So, skip the winter hibernation and get outside to enjoy the best that Sydney has to offer by booking a Climb now.
