Mardi Gras Must-Sees in Sydney

What started as a protest for LGBTQI+ rights, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival has evolved into a celebration of Sydney’s diverse and inclusive LGBTQI+ community. The festival brings a kaleidoscope of colour and sparkle to the city over 17 days, with a stellar line-up of events. Here are our must-see Mardi Gras celebrations:

Mardi Gras Film Festival (13-28 February) Presented by Queer Screen, this popular festival showcases the year’s top LGBTQI+ films, including five world premieres and 75 Australian premieres. Learn about the screening highlights here.

The Parade (2 March) On Saturday 2 March, a bustling extravaganza of over 200,000 people will bring Sydney to a standstill. Celebrate the LGBTQI+ community and take in the colourful spectacle of the annual Mardi Gras parade, taking place on Oxford Street, Flinders Street and Anzac Parade.

The Party (2 March) Following the parade, let loose at the Mardi Gras Party and dance the night away to top artists and DJs including PNAU and Kim Petras. Enter the Neon Playground, Black Palace and Powder Puff themed-fantasy worlds and party on at Australia’s biggest LGBTQI+ event.

BridgeClimb will be celebrating Mardi Gras with special rainbow-coloured handkerchiefs up on the Bridge. If you climb during the dates of 26 February to 3 March, you’ll have the option to rock a rainbow hankie on the bridge and bring it home as a keep sake. Rainbow hankies are available while supplies last.

Show your pride from way up high on the Harbour Bridge this Mardi Gras, we know we will!
